College Standout Caitrin Lonergan Joins Whale

Milford, CT-The Connecticut Whale have added a major offensive force to The Pod with the signing of Roslindale, MA native Caitrin Lonergan for the 2022-23 Premier Hockey Federation season.

A standout at Clarkson University and Boston College, Lonergan begins her professional hockey career with the Whale having developed a long list of accolades at the collegiate level. The 24-year-old was notably a Top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2017-18 as a sophomore with the Eagles, scoring 30 goals and 45 assists for 75 points in 38 games. She also earned back-to-back ECAC honors with the Knights including First-Team All Conference in 2020-21 and Third-Team in 2021-22, recording 47 points in 36 games including 17 goals and 30 assists.

“I am super excited and grateful to join the Whale in the PHF for Season 8,” said Lonergan. “It’s been so fun following the Whale this past season and I am honored to join this amazing organization as we look to fight for the Isobel Cup.”

In addition to a stellar NCAA career, Lonergan has considerable international experience with USA Hockey. She was a member of the National U18 Team that won IIHF World Women’s U18 Championship gold in 2015 and silver in 2014, joined the U22 Women’s Select Team in 2016 and 2018, and competed with the Women’s National Team at the 2016 Four Nations Cup.

“We are excited that Caitrin will be joining the Whale this season,” said Head Coach Colton Orr. “She had a tremendous college career and is a highly talented player. She is a fierce competitor and will fit right into our team culture and style of play. She adds more scoring to our forward group and we are looking forward to seeing what she can do in her first year in the Premier Hockey Federation.”

Lonergan is the Whale’s first free agent acquisition for the upcoming season and will use her scoring prowess to contribute to the club’s high powered offense that boasts top scorers like PHF MVP Kennedy Marchment, and Newcomer of the Year Taylor Girard, along with a very solid group of returning veterans.
